The Pohl Children's Pediatric Home Care, Hospice and Palliative Care has a mission to provide a quality of life experience for children who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness, age 18 and younger, living in Central Minnesota, while supporting the entire family.
Our goal is to provide a holistic, family-centered approach to meet the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of the family through in-home pediatric hospice and palliative care services.
We focus on Quality...
Hospice Care is compassionate comfort care for infants, children and adolescents with life-limiting conditions, which focuses on providing relief from symptoms and mental stress.
Pediatric Palliative Care is specialized medical care focusing on relief of symptoms, while pursuing curative treatment. We can help with many serious/ life threatening illnesses such as genetic disorders, neurological disorders, cancer, heart and lung conditions. The diagnostic categories are broken down into 4 groups:
1. Life threatening conditions which curative treatment may be feasible but can fail (cancer or extreme prematurity)
2. Conditions where early death may be inevitable and long periods of intensive treatment is aimed at prolonging life. (Cystic fibrosis or severe immunodeficiencies)
3. Progressive conditions without curative treatment options (severe metabolic disorders or chromosomal disorders)
4. Irreversible but non-progressive conditions (severe cerebral palsy or multiple disabilities due to brain or spinal cord infections)
Pediatric Home Care is for children that are experiencing conditions that requires on-going medical care. These children may be candidates for the Pediatric Home Care program.
Conditions that require a skilled home care nurse visit to do the following may qualify:
- helping you learn how to start an IV
- monitoring growth and development
- monitoring oxygen requirements
- blood draws
- providing injections
- dressing changes
- monitoring blood sugars
- teaching a healthy diet to control blood sugars
